Materials
Suspended diamond-shaped structure composed of wooden panels and soft coated wooden climbing holds, featuring a four-pillar support structure and a circular rail for the lifeline (rope and harness). A circular padded base sits beneath the wedge-shaped structure to cushion potential falls.
The feel of the holds is fundamental to conveying the project's concept; it must be something soft and flexible that also allows for a non-slip grip.
The project challenges us to overcome a physical barrier to overcome a mental one. Climbing, whether on a climbing wall or a rock, is a practice that confronts us -from my point of view-, with one of the fears we first experience as children: that of falling to the ground. Changing climbing holds for female breasts is a direct reference to Rigoberta Bandini's song Ay mamá: no sé por qué dan tanto miedo nuestras tetas, sin ellas no habría humanidad ni habría belleza. ("I don't know why our breasts are so scary, without them there would be no humanity and no beauty"). It raises the question of whether you prefer to hold on to them or risk falling.
